Getting to K’gari…

  • River Heads (Hervey Bay) is only 3.5 hours’ drive from Brisbane, and 2 hours’ drive from the Sunshine Coast

    Directions: When making your way to the ferry, be sure to enter ‘54 Ariadne Street’ into your GPS, and this will direct you to our Mainland Ferry Reception.

    Secure car parking facilities are adjacent to the River Heads Mainland Reception and are open from 08:00-18:30. Upon check-in at Mainland Reception, guests will be issued with a pin number to gain access to the secure lot.

  • Getting to paradise has never been easier, with flights into Hervey Bay operating from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

    Kingfisher Bay Resort provides on-demand airport transfers to the Mainland Ferry Reception in River Heads, for the journey over to K’gari. Be sure to book an airport transfer when arranging your accommodation.

  • There are multiple ferry services daily, for the 50-minute journey from River Heads across to Kingfisher Bay Resort. Guests are advised to arrive at Mainland Reception 40 minutes prior to the ferry departure time, for check-in and bag drop.

    A courtesy shuttle from Mainland Reception down to the ferry, will leave 10 minutes prior to departure for walk-on passengers only.

    Those self-driving will be given further instruction by the Mainland Reception team.

Additional trip information + FAQ’s

  • General visitors to K’gari do not need a permit.

    Those who are bringing over a vehicle and plan to leave the Resort grounds to explore the island’s natural sights will need a QLD Parks vehicle permit - this can be purchased here. Vehicle permits are strictly enforced and fines will apply.

  • Absolutely! We understand that special events might require some additional luggage… so guests can of course bring vehicles over for ease of travel.
    NOTE: Vehicles do incur a charge on the ferry and be sure to book ahead to secure your preferred crossing, as space can be limited.

    If you plan to stay within the resort grounds, then no vehicle permit is required. However, if you own a 4WD and wish to explore the island, then a permit is required before leaving the resort’s perimeter.

  • We have a guest shuttle service which takes guests directly from the ferry landing at the jetty, to our Main Resort Complex.

    Alternately it’s only a short 5-minute walk up to Resort Reception.

  • Located on the east coast along 75 Mile Beach, K’gari Beach Resort is accessible by 4WD only, as navigation across the sand tracks is required.

    Groups will need to have their own vehicles, or be booked on an accommodated tour package.

  • Vehicle hire is available through our partner operator, Aussie Trax, with an office conveniently located within the Kingfisher Bay Resort Village Complex.

  • Both Kingfisher Bay Resort and K’gari Beach Resort are securely dingo fenced, making them the perfect accommodation + event choice for travellers on K’gari, ensuring a safe environment for all guests.

    All visitors to the island are advised not to approach dingoes and to maintain a safe distance away from them at all times, allowing these wild animals to enjoy their native habitat.
